Timur Demirbaş is a professor of criminal law and criminal procedure.
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University and completed his doctorate at the Institute of Social Sciences of the same university. He began his academic career there as a research assistant in criminal law. After completing his military service, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the Faculty of Law of Dokuz Eylül University (Izmir). Prof. Demirbaş was awarded the titles of “Assoc. Professor” and “Professor”there and taught at the law faculties of Bahçeşehir University, Economy University, Istanbul Bilgi University and Istanbul Kültür University in the following years. Currently, Prof. Demirbaş is the Chair of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at Yaşar University Faculty of Law.
Prof. Demirbaş, who onducted research in the Federal Republic of Germany at various times with DAAD and Alexander von Humboldt scholarships, was a member of the Commission for the Draft Prison Law and of the Izmir Prison Monitoring Committee. He is a member of the Turkish Criminal Law Association and on the board of the Umut Foundation. He has published numerous books and articles on criminal law, criminal procedure law, criminal enforcement law and criminology. Prof. Demirbaş has a good command of German.
